For those of you in the El Dorado Hills, Ca area (I know there are a couple here), there will be a house concert by guitarist/singer extraordinaire, Howard Emerson at 7 pm, wednesday May 10th. He may even perform a couple tunes on a John How Guitar or two including that little Stella repro I just finished.

I'm gonna try to get some video as well. As soon as I get a chance I'll get some pictures for ya Bob. That oak turned out to be a fine wood for this guitar and as it turns out there were quite a few Oak stella's made back in the early part of the last century.

A little tidbit you may not have known, Howard played guitar in the Billy Joel band on the album "Turnstiles" way back in the early 70's.

I knew that John! Howard and I worked together at Sam Ash in the mid 90's. He ruled the acoustic room.Great to see him doing so well, he is a great guy.

Hi John,
I'm sitting at the computer of my friend, Bart Ghormley, here in Sonoma, CA and having a cup of coffee as I wake up.....

Bart and I will arrive in El Dorado Hills around 3pm today and I'm really looking forward to this gig.

The 'last minute' gig that I was asked to do in Marin fell through, and I should have been more vigilant when I was asked to do it less than 2 weeks prior to leaving. Next time I'll put tighter constraints on any offers no matter how confident the potential host sounds about being able to muster a decent size crowd.

He had 3 confirmations the day before the gig......

I can't wait to play the oak guitar, John! See you later....

Basically a house concert is just what it sounds like, but there are some important basic factors to consider.

1.You have a desire to see a favorite artist perform in your living room, up close. A backyard is fine if the weather is predictable.
2.You have enough friends and acquaintences to invite who are of a like mind in their musical tastes.
3.You don't mind 'strangers' contacting you who have similar tastes and who want to attend.

Hope that starts to give you an idea. It's not a hard thing to do, and there a thousands of them being done all across the country. It helps artists to fill in blank spaces in a tour, and helps to give fans a chance to see a favorite artist up close and to be able to meet them in a relaxed situation.
